Well it actually was referenced from a real face, a Mohawk singer/dancer friend but it came in a vision suddenly. I had to do it.

Thank you, this painting came in as such an intense and vivid vision, I couldn't let it slip away. The grain of the paper was perfect to suggest the soft edges to counterbalance the violent contrast of the tone values, it played an essential part in the overall effect.
