'Skippy' Dog
Description:
hughgardiner.daportfolio.com This is a watercolour of my sister-in-law's dog, "Skippy". I used a wet-on-wet and splatter technique for the background. I also used purple in the shadows and to dull the yellow-orange without losing the colour intensity that using black causes. I think the background could use some more purple....what do people think?

Good feedback. Thanks! I've done the touch-ups we discussed. I'll have to post the results.

The eye needs more reflective highlight. The background needs more purple, and the lighter patch of the ruff on the chest under the collar needs to be shifted more to the left. And, wait...are you allowed to critique your own work here?

I really like the painting. I think you don't need to be too critical with yourself. I think the fur looks really nice and also the background looks very good. I like that it doesn't look flat. I agree to you that probably a little reflective highlight in the eye would be good and at some parts the border of the dog is visible (at the legs or the ear). You could try to avoid having the border look by nt making it that dark (e.g., very good solved for the chest).
