Some teachers in art are against smudging for shading (which I don't agree with), but something you can work on is making a smooth transition from light to shadow. Dont be afraid to get dark with pencil for shadows. Even if you think its to much, little accents of dark shadow in creases and facial lines can really make a picture pop. Great work on the sketch! I think you could continue to work up this picture to make it even better if you have the patience.
