trust me, I understand all too well how you can take a picture of your work and it looks 1/10th as good as the thing in real life. so annoying.

I can give you some tips: Not a huge deal, but I would advise using a grid to practice proportions. The hair has no depth or real "texture" to it. It is basically the same shade of black. There need to be darker shadows and then highlights. Having that contrast will make the hair come to life. The hair needs to interact with light. The eyes are bit off, the right one is looking up and the left one is kind of looking straight on, again, a grid would help fix that. Your rendering of the yes is pretty good though! I would maybe add a little more shadow to the whites of each left side (viewing) of each eye. There should/could be a cast shadow on the right side of her face where her hair is falling over onto her face. In general, I would try to increase the contrast in the piece, more range of black all the way up to white highlights. Most of the piece is either two shades: black or a mid-tone grey-ish. Try to get the whole scale in there. Not that I am an expert by any means but
