One beautiful artist Lyuba Diker and I made a very interesting experiment – we decided to paint portraits of each other. I’ve chosen one of Lyuba’s photos, which reminded me of one very famous portrait. Everyone knows this portrait – “Girl with a pearl earring”, one of the Dutch painter’s Johannes Vermeer masterwork. It has been in the collection of the Mauritshuis gallery in The Hague since 1902. So, looking at these portrait and photo, I decided, that what I had go do, is just unite them. I haven’t changed Lyuba’s eyes, I thought, maybe it would be more interesting to leave them looking in another direction, so not to make this portrait a copy of Vermeer´s masterpiece. So here’s what I’ve made – hope she likes it)
