Dantes-Inferno-7th-Circle

Dante's Inferno- 7th Circle

Type: drawing Uploaded: 2014-10-15

Description:

A Literature project on Dante's Inferno. The 7th circle of Hell is reserved for those who have committed violence, and there are three layers in this circle, with violence against others being the least harmful, to suicide, then to violence against God. The murderers go in the first layer, because Dante thought that suicide was worse than being a murderer. The eternal punishment for these people was to forever swim in a river of boiling blood, and if people rose out of the river too much for their sin, centaurs would shoot them with arrows. Chiron lead the thousands of centaurs who lined the river. The minotaur guarded the entrance to this level. Alexander The Great was up to his eyelashes in the boiling blood. On the other side of the river was the 2nd layer of the 7th circle, which was for those who committed self harm. These people were condemned to be encased in trees, and they could not move or speak. The only time they could talk was once every day when harpies would come and eat at their leaves and bark. When this occurred, the people would lament and bleed. Dogs chased men through the woods. I chose to draw two different levels because I like tree people and centaurs. The river was horrible to draw, because of all the dang people. The tree people were so much fun. Drawn on a big piece of paper and then outlined in micropens. Horrible process.
