J is for Jotunn
About this artwork
Has it really been 4 years since I made one of these?! I need to do at least 1-2 a year until I finish. Anyway, I've been looking forward to this one: the Jotunn from The Ritual. She's one of the best modern monster designs ever and I will accept no dissent. I wanted an excuse to draw her since I saw the movie ages ago, and now it's time. Made with watercolor, colored pencils, ink and acrylic paint.

Thank you! I've been getting rusty with traditional, so it's good to know it came out alright.

Really good use of mediums together, the colours compliment each other and I know the focus is the monster but her surrounds and background is really good

Thank You! The backgrounds aren't my favorite part to make, but I'm glad they turned out well.

Looks quite menacing.

The layered ink, watercolour and pencil textures give the Jotunn a wonderfully carved, weathered presence. That red-and-yellow background frames the silhouette with real menace.
