Baby Angeloe Sketches
Description:
Well this was a long time coming. The end of the semester is a difficult time... Anyway, my last baby sketch featuring Angeloe! Mother Red-Scaled Fighting dragons will seek out small dens to lay their 3-5 eggs. The shell of these eggs appears as an opalescent violet, making them very attractive to predators. They're kept safe in a nest of smooth stones. Inside, the hatchlings are developing a felt-like material over their horns, claws and underbelly. Once they hatch, this material dissolves and stains those body parts a deep red; a very unique feature for this breed. During their year-long stay with their mother, the dragonettes learn the basics of hunting, flying and socializing, but in a more hazardous environment. They learn to stalk mountain goats on the side of cliffs, they learn to fly off the sides of steep mountains and they start fighting creatures as large as grizzly bears by 6 months old. Once the dragonettes have matured, the mother must drive them from her territory to find their own, or one may challenge her for it. These challenges usually only end in a death. Once separated, the young dragons leave in search of their own territory. By now, the silver stripes on the necks of male dragons have developed the ability to produce bio-luminescence. This serves to attract mates. As the young dragon ages, it's red horns and claws will slowly dull over time. The oldest of these dragons have been recorded with light gray horns. However, it's difficult to find very old fighting dragons in the wild. This is because of their aggressive nature that drives them to fight just about anything they deem a threat. Some more inexperienced dragons will often take on opponents far stronger than them.
