Baby Meri Sketches

Description:

I got to thinking about what my dragon characters might look like as dragonettes. Just some simple sketches of anatomy and egg designs. The first one is Meri. Dual-Finned Water dragon eggs have a bumpy gray exterior and an oval shape. They bury their eggs in the sand near the shallow ends of reefs. The eggs appear to be rocks, which protects them from predators. The parents live near the eggs until they hatch in order to assure their hatching. Once hatched, the dragonettes can only breathe underwater. The ability to breathe air comes at around 2 1/2 months. Parents only stick around long enough to teach the hatchlings to hunt, which is only about three weeks, and then they leave them to fend for themselves. The dragonettes begin learning how to fly at around four months when they start to venture onto land. They usually practice by jumping off small cliffs or trees and trying to fly the farthest out to sea.
