As far as composition goes, you understand the rule of thirds and know how to pick colours. This is a pretty good start. If you want to do more stuff like this, I would suggest taking your canvas outside and draw some landscapes from real life, or try to duplicate landscape photos. Basically, still life training will help you along. Keep at it!
