You have to work with shades and lineart. Lineart should be more clearly and smoth. I don't know what program You use but even in gimp You have functions in pencils "quality" and "wage"(?) (I have program in my native language so I don't know what's in english) it makes brush slower and smoother. In anime shades are in big contrast and darker than basic colour, not sharp, with higher item's (like hair or button) shape. And You have to work with eyes. I think if You don't make good eyes, whole character get wrong. Work with it and find good programe for You
