Continuing with the list of aliens I invented (and hope to include in a sic-fi novel), this species evolved on a low gravity world and though they managed to get into space easily and adjust to microgravity, they require exosuits in order to survive higher gravity environments. The mouth flaps are an evolutionary relic that was used to startle predators.
