The story of the game is about an underwater complex in the future after the world was destroyed by a comet and only a few scientists are left, they created an artificial intelligence that was tasked with keeping humans alive, after the comet hits, the AI freaks out, and it's prime directives glitch, it thinks that the comet has affected the scientists and it then try's to "fix" the humans, puting human consiousness into machines essesialy damning the person to eternal suffering, all the while thinking it is helping the humans
