    Absolutely! A lot of artists, including myself, will often combine the two in a piece to make the color scheme more interesting. Chalk pastels and charcoal have a remarkably similar texture and appearance. A favorite of mine: charcoal, with red and white chalk. Or I'll swap blue with the red, as I personally prefer to keep the color usage minimal in a mixed charcoal/chalk piece. :)

    ^w^ No problem! Don't be afraid to really push those darks, especially in clothing folds. I also recommend getting a hold of some white chalk or white conte, to really emphasize highlights as well. ^w^

    Pretty good :) Keep practicing - I suggest working on pushing your shading a bit further to add a bit more depth and detail.
