Very emotional piece with a great deal of movement. I think one thing that is needed is contrast. Try some other shading techniques such as stipling or crosshatching so the risk of the viewer losing the image's subject vs background vs expressions isn't a problem. If I was that wee bird, I'd be SCARED! lol
