In my opinion, this is how Eyeless Jack would deal with a relationship. He would stalk the girl, sending her all kinds of creepy things (dead animals, a plate with a relative's or friend's kidney with a crudely written invitation to dinner) before killing her and taking her eyes as a memento. Now that I think about it, I can see Jack having a shelf full of eyeball-bottles belonging to past one-sided flames.
