Yuki Onna
Description:
Watercolors, gel pens, 15x20 Yuki Onna is spirit in Japanese folklore. Yuki-onna appears on snowy nights as a tall, beautiful woman with long black hair and blue lips. She floats across the snow, leaving no footprints. In many stories, Yuki-onna appears to travelers trapped in snowstorms, and uses her icy breath to leave them as frost-coated corpses. Other times, she manifests holding a child. When a well-intentioned soul takes the "child" from her, they are frozen in place. I like this chracter and tried to depict her second time (the first was digital work unfinishd). But again I am not satisfied with the result. The first thing is her hand. It doesn't look like a hand at all. Something unclear and shapeless. The baby also is hardly recognizable. And I think I've overdone it with white gel pen. It's always a problem for me to stop when it is enough. As a result the work is spoiled. I think that was not the last try to paint Yuki Onna. I definitly should make better picture of her.
