To be honest, I had a rough time figuring out how to draw Smaug. I wanted him to be my own creature, not like the one everyone remembers from the Ralph Bakshi cartoon. But I wasn't used to drawing something so up-close and personal, so I went through different big cats and compared them to different ideas for an original dragon. It took about three and a half months to draw and finish. I finally went with a lion and dragon combo, which made it pretty unique, I think. And I don't even want to talk about the shading, that was torture to get right, or as right as I was going to get it! HAHAHA! Thank you, everybody!
